Refurbishment of Council care homes
Work is progressing to update facilities at three of The Highland Council’s care homes for older people at an estimated total cost of £4,120,000.
At Grant House, Grantown on Spey, work starts today (Monday) on a project to upgrade residents’ toilets, bathing facilities and a hairdressing room. The contractor for this phase of works is Colin Lawson Builders. In addition to this, some fire safety work, decoration and re-carpeting will be carried out.
A second, more extensive phase of work is scheduled to start early in the new year which will see improvements made to the kitchen, upgrades to all of the electrical and heating systems and the installation of a sprinkler system. A biomass boiler is also planned, which will contribute to the Council’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint. Further minor works and decoration will also be carried out during this contract. This phase of work will take about six months to complete.
The total estimated cost of the upgrade at Grant House is £990,000.
At Invernevis House in Fort William, work will start at the end of October to improve assisted bathing facilities, install a new entrance door with automatic entry system, and upgrade the kitchen and some of the fire safety arrangements. The contractor for this phase of work is MacGregor Construction.
Improvements have already been made at Invernevis to the dining room, hairdressing room, day centre area and to a number of the residents’ bedrooms.
At Ach an Eas in Inverness, some minor works have already been carried out and further work is due to start before the end of the year to upgrade assisted toilets and bathing facilities and to improve the kitchen, dining room and reception areas.
As at Grant House, a second phase of work will be carried out at both Ach an Eas and Invernevis House. The second phase of work at Invernevis House is targeted to commence around April/May and the work at Ach an Eas will commence once Grant House has been completed.
The total estimated cost of the works at Ach an Eas is £1,128,000 and at Invernevis House £2,002,000.
