Star stories of the Ancients

The Highland Council’s Inverness Rangers will be star gazing this Friday (14 October) and are inviting the public to join them.

Abriachan Forest is the venue for an evening talk by Katy Martin, Senior Ranger for Inverness and Nairn,  between 7:30pm - 9pm,.

Katy said: “It's fascinating to discover the stories behind the stars - who named them and why. This talk gives people a chance to find out how the Great Bear got its name and how star signs came about. These stories are some of the oldest stories we have. Abriachan can be a great place to see the stars as there is very little light pollution in the area from street lighting and houses. After the talk, if the sky is clear, we will head outside to spot the star constellations. All star gazers should dress warmly; bring a torch and their imagination.”

Participation in this joint star gazing event between The Highland Council’s Rangers and Abriachan Forest Trust and costs £3 for adults and £2 for concessions  but participants do need to book a place as numbers will be limited.

This family friendly event is organised as part of the Highland Archaeology Festival  and The Highland Council’s Planning and Development Service countryside events programme.
