Camusnagaul passenger ferry
Members of The Highland Council recently (Thursday 14th December, 2006) agreed to award a contract to Sea Ventures Scotland Ltd. to run a passenger ferry service between Camusnagaul and Fort William on Loch Linnhe at a cost of £40,000 per year.
Following recent public consultations considerations were given to the alternative option of a range of bus services travelling round Loch Eil. Overwhelming support was given for retaining a ferry service from those present at a meeting held on 6th December which would provide a faster and more frequent service than bus transport.
Members also agreed that the local community will be consulted on an alternative timetable submitted to the Council by Sea Ventures Scotland Ltd. and that the most advantageous timetable will be put in place for the ferry service.
Local Highland Council, Councillor Michael Foxley said: “I am delighted that this historic ferry route will continue and thank my Lochaber colleagues for their support. Usage is increasing and Jeoff Ward will encourage more tourist use which is essential to the viability of Treslaig Village Hall. We need now to look at a bus service for the townships towards Kinlocheil.”
