Consultation over Aviemore pitch surface

Residents are being asked to have their say on proposed changes to the new playing field at the £11.9 million Aviemore Primary School, which is currently under construction.

An Open Day will be held in the Cairngorm Hotel. Aviemore from 12.30pm to 8pm on Thursday 29 September and all members of the Aviemore community are encouraged to attend to view and comment on the proposals.

The proposed playing field is one of a range of community facilities and will be available for community use outwith school hours.

The Highland Council has submitted a Stage 1 application to Sportscotland for a funding  contribution towards the additional cost of installing a synthetic playing surface instead of a grass surface and also to install floodlighting. Sportscotland has indicated that the proposal can now progress to the next stage of the award process. As planning approval is required for this, a planning application has been lodged for the proposed changes.

The consultation exercise will be completed prior to the application being determined by the Planning Committee of the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA). This will allow the Aviemore community to consider the proposals, in particular the respective merits of grass and synthetic playing surfaces. It is important that as much constructive feedback as possible is obtained from all parts of the community and forwarded to the CNPA to assist the Planning Committee in reaching their decision.

Further information will be made available from the home page of The Highland Council website http://www.www.highland.gov.uk/ prior to the Open Day. In addition, hard copies of the questionnaire will be available locally.
