Grantown Grammar girls are in the pink.
A team of rugby playing pupils at Grantown Grammar school recently took delivery of their new team strip and sported the colour of their choice – pink – for the team strip.
Grantown grammar school girls’ rugby team strips were funded through The Highland Council’s Active Schools and Fit for Girls programmes. The players were consulted about their choice of strip as an aid to help motivate, encourage new players and enhance team spirit.
Highland Council’s Active Schools Coordinator for the Grantown cluster Dawn Horsburgh said: “Fit for Girls projects have been happening all over the country and it was important to make ours a success. It is a common trend that a lot of girls stop exercising in their teens and we want to try to avoid this. Making team sports more accessible and introducing girls to different activities they can carry on into later life is important. The funding received and many hours volunteered made this all possible. Girls sport is going strong in Grantown.”
Dawn added: “The U’15 and U’18 girls are about enter the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Cup for schools and clubs this October and are keen to progress further in the competition this year. 14 out of 23 players attended Regional Pathways Development programme events. A huge thanks to their coaches - teachers Mrs Blair, Mr Croall and local coach George Byers.”
