Dornoch Hogmanay street party
A Hogmanay street party with a family feeling is how the Royal Burgh of Dornoch in Sutherland will be celebrating the New Year.
Dornoch’s Hogmanay street party will take place (Sunday 31st December, 2006) between 10:30pm and 1.00am in the Royal Burgh’s Town Square.
The historic setting including castle, cathedral and courthouse will be illuminated creating a magnificent venue for the midnight celebrations.
Provost of Dornoch, Councillor Duncan Allan said: “Dornoch Hogmanay street party is now a destination-must for those looking for the genuine article; music, dancing, fireworks, hot soup and a real family atmosphere.
“In traditional Highland-style, Pipe Major Fraser of the Dornoch Pipe Band will pipe in the New Year from the Castle battlements which always brings a tear to eye. The bells striking at midnight will follow him, and then the fireworks display. After the bells, there is a disco in the nearby social club for the young at heart until the early hours of the morning. Bring the kids they’ll love it.
“Bring the New Year in at Dornoch in this fantastic setting that is unique to our Royal Burgh. With the cathedral on one side and jail on the other you can choose your destination according to your mood. Dornoch has it all.”
Visitors to Dornoch are urged to book their accommodation in advance to avoid disappointment. Local pubs are open till 3am on Hogmanay and then again from 11am on New Year’s Day.
