Opportunity to watch Black Grouse ritual in Badenoch and Strathspey

April is the best time to witness one of the Highland’s most enigmatic wildlife spectacles, Black Grouse on their lek with the male birds displaying and squabbling whilst the females weigh up the contenders. The Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers are leading a guided walk early on Saturday morning (14 April) in Badenoch and Strathspey to watch these fascinating birds in action.

Duncan Macdonald, The Highland Council Ranger for Badenoch and Strathspey South said: “Displaying Black Grouse is high on the agenda of most birdwatchers at this time of year and rightly so.  These are magnificent birds to watch, add to this a stunning location in the Cairngorms National Park and the chance of other species like Golden Eagle, then this is worth getting up early for.”

The guided walk will take place from 5am tp 7am and anyone wishing to come along should contact Duncan Macdonald on 01479 873706 to book a space and to receive directions to the meeting place.  No dogs please.
