Gaelic information day for the family
The Highland Council and Bòrd na Gàidhlig are organising a Gaelic Fun and Information Day which is primarily aimed at parents and children aged 0 to 3 from across the Skye and Lochalsh area.
The event will take place on Saturday 28 April at the Fingal Centre in Portree High School, starting at 11am and finishing at 1pm. Information and support will be provided for those who might be interested in their children developing bilingualism through Gaelic.
Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to speak to staff from both the Council and Bòrd na Gàidhlig regarding Gaelic Medium Education, there will also be lots of fun activities for the children including storytelling, face painting and soft play.
Refreshments will be on sale during the event, with all the proceeds going to Cross Roads Care (Skye and Lochalsh).
Shona Paterson, Highland Council’s Gaelic Community Learning and Development Officer (North) said, “This event provides parents with the opportunity to acquire further information on Early Years Gaelic Education and the support available to families.”
Head of Education and Learning at Bòrd na Gàidhlig, Mary MacMillan said: “Information workshops such as these are a fantastic opportunity for parents to have their questions answered and are very important to the continuing development of the Gaelic Early Years sector. We are happy to be working with The Highland Council again on such an important venture and hope to roll out events such as these throughout Scotland with the support of other Local Authorities."
