Nairn – Superfast Opportunities in the North

Issued by Business Gateway

Individuals and businesses interested in finding out about the benefits and opportunities of superfast broadband and digital technology are invited to a free event in Nairn.

The Digital Showcase will highlight what the latest technology can do for Nairn, the first town to have superfast broadband in the Highlands and Islands.

There will be IT experts on hand to provide help and support to everyone – from experienced to new internet users. Hosted by Business Gateway Highlands & Moray, in partnership with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), the event takes place in Nairn Community & Arts Centre from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 22nd.

Theresa Swayne, HIE’s Senior Development Manager for Digital, said: “We want to work with businesses and communities to help them make the most of the opportunities from superfast broadband. The showcase will demonstrate practical advantages, whilst giving people a chance to ask any questions they may have about IT and broadband.”

Donald Mackenzie, Business Gateway Service Manager said: “Having access to superfast broadband will benefit the area, providing residents with an extremely fast way to send and download large amounts of data cheaply. This event not only aims to explain to individuals and business owners the benefits of the technology, it will also demystify Cloud computing, highlight how to tackle cyber security issues and showcase how the technology could be used by local entrepreneurs to increase sales, find new customers and grow their businesses from the comfort of their own home.”

Other organisations which are taking part in the showcase include e-Skills UK, Citizens Online, dot.rural, Glasgow School of Art Centre for Design Innovation, Tourism Intelligence Scotland, Stormfront – Apple Solutions for Learning and e-Skills UK.

IT experts from Development Partners will be on hand to provide advice and the ICT Knowledge Transfer Network will answer questions business may have regarding cyber security.

People are also being encouraged to enter a competition to tell their ‘Digital Story’ and win an Apple iPad.

Anyone interested in attending can find out more and register at www.hie.co.uk/about-hie/events or come along to Nairn Community & Arts Centre between 8am-6pm on Wednesday 22 August.
