Invergordon becomes better connected
Invergordon is now better connected with a much needed all abilities footpath at the train station. Following meetings and discussion with local Councillors, ScotRail carried out the work to the path which was formally opened today (Tuesday 21st August 2012) by Representatives from ScotRail along with local Councillors and Community Councillors.
Local residents were fed up of the long walk round from the station when they got off the train ever since the bridge over the railway was removed following damage to it. In the current climate funding was always going to be the biggest challenge but ScotRail came up trumps, securing funding of £150,000 through Transport Scotland’s Access for All Small Schemes fund, and commissioning the work with The Highland Council and the Invergordon Community Council agreeing to the use of their land for the path.
Councillor Martin Rattray welcomed the new path on behalf of the residents of Invergordon and his fellow Ward Councillors saying: “This new path will make a tremendous difference and is a significant investment. I would like to thank ScotRail for their assistance and confidence in Invergordon.”
Alan Scott ,ScotRail’s programme manager, said: “We appreciate that the access to Invergordon station was far from ideal after the bridge had to be removed, so we are delighted to have been able to make this improvement.
“We continue to work with Transport Scotland, Network Rail and other stakeholders to successfully deliver major improvements to Scotland’s railways.
“It is a strategy which is delivering environmental and economic benefits for Scotland, and encouraging people out of their cars onto public transport.”
