Highland Council winter road condition reports for 6 December 2012.

Road condition and gritting treatment reports by The Highland Council’s, Transport, Environmental and Community Services for the morning of Thursday 6 December 2012 are as follows:

Skye and Lochalsh
All priority one routes pre-gritted during last evening. Temperatures rose during the night resulting in heavy rainfall. This turned to snow on Mam Ratagan at around 8am. Routes being treated as required. Posted: 06/12/2012 11:18

Sutherland and East Ross
Most routes affected by slush/snow cover and icy patches. Rain/sleet at lower levels with the odd icy patches. All routes currently being treated with salt/sand mix in order of priority.  Posted: 06/12/2012 09:17

Lochaber
A wide mixture of weather across the area - heavy rain on west costal routes some snow on the highest routes ice and freezing rain on some of the internal routes, all routes treated as required. Posted: 06/12/2012 08:42

Caithness and North Sutherland
Most lower routes affected by heavy rain and sleet showers this morning with some icy patches in places. Most high routes have a cover of snow, mainly wet but hard packed and slippery in places. Treatment to continue as necessary. Posted: 06/12/2012 08:33

Ross and Cromarty
Applecross - Beallach closed due to deep and drifting snow. Posted: 06/12/2012 08:21

Wet with odd icy patches at low levels in west. Snow at higher levels inland 1" on Fain 2" Glendocherty 2-3" Knockan. 8"-9" snow on Applecross Beallach starting to drift. East very wet at low levels. Sleet at high levels. Main roads clear. Side roads still odd icy patches. Posted: 06/12/2012 08:12

Nairn
Fair overhead, no snow or rain yet. Checking Priority 1, 2 and 3 routes. Then treat Priority 4 routes not done yesterday and still icy (side roads in town). Carry on treating footpaths not reached yesterday and still icy. Posted: 06/12/2012 08:18

Badenoch and Strathspey
Gritting by priority some slush between tracks on main routes Priority 4 routes still hard packed, high fresh winds causing slight drifting on the A939 Bridge of Brown. Ski road gates closed, high winds causing white out. Posted: 06/12/2012 08:07.

Inverness
Treating all routes due to freezing rain forecast for 7am. Posted: 06/12/2012 06:35
