Highland Council winter road condition reports for 7 December 2012.

Road condition and gritting treatment reports by The Highland Council’s, Transport, Environmental and Community Services for the morning of Friday 7 December 2012 are as follows:

Inverness
All priority roads gritted this morning and bladed where up to 6" snow cover on high roads. All low roads now de-iced and main high roads clear. Still working on some high side roads. Posted: 07/12/2012 10:46

Skye and Lochalsh
Update at 16:50 last night for heavy snow falling on the A890 Auchtertyre - Strathcarron Road. Snowplough/gritter mobilised immediately to attend and treat. Temperatures rising rapidly in the morning. All routes checked. Posted: 07/12/2012 10:01

Lochaber
A mixture of weather across the area. Western fringes snow and ice free. Dusting of snow on A884 Liddesdale hill. Inland route black ice on many of the routes. Gritter off road on the Camaghael Loop Road. Posted: 07/12/2012 09:02

Ross and Cromarty
Difficult night with pre-grits in the west. Heavy snow in evening. 3" snow at Glendocherty, 3" snow on Fain, 6-8" snow at Achnasheen. Gorstan – Lochcarron, lorry broken down at Lochcarron end. Route not bladed on return until late.

This morning milder from the west with still odd icy patches and compacted snow. 3" on Fain, 2" at Luib West of Achnasheen and at Lochluichart. All blading off well.

East, this morning, very icy/black ice in several areas, around Dingwall and Strathpeffer, Moy Bridge and odd areas throughout the Black Isle. All routes being treated.  Posted: 07/12/2012 08:59

Sutherland and East Ross
Most routes affected by icy stretches and black ice, with rain falling on frozen surfaces. Treatment of routes is on-going in order of priority. Posted: 07/12/2012 08:39

Caithness and North Sutherland
Mostly wet roads, some icy patches (packed snow on higher routes), treated Priority 1,2 and 3 routes. Posted: 07/12/2012 08:31

Nairn
Wet roads, Priority 1, 2 and 3 routes patrolled. High main roads gritted. Posted: 07/12/2012 08:19

Badenoch and Strathspey
3" of fresh snow in the South of the area and a light covering in the North. Heavy showers affecting the whole area, gritting all routes by priority. Posted: 07/12/2012 08:11
