Highland Celebration Of Learning

Learners, tutors and Community Learning workers from across Highland gathered for the third annual Celebration of Learning Awards ceremony which took place today (Monday, 27 February 2006) at Ross County Football Club in Dingwall.

Local radio personalities Ken Kelman and John Slater presented Personal Learning Achievement Awards to adult learners. The achievements covered a wide range of subjects including learning the English language, creative writing, ICT, and crafts. All the learners were nominated for their awards by their tutors who recognised their commitment and dedication to learning.

The contribution tutors are making to Community Learning was also acknowledged. These often unsung heroes give generously of their time and expertise to help others on their learning journeys.

Organised on behalf of the Community Learning Strategy and Development Partnership, and sponsored by the Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and the University of the Highlands and Islands, this successful event is now firmly established as a way for organisations to recognise the achievements of some of the people who take up the many learning opportunities available across Highland.

One of the learners, delighted to have received an award, commented that learning had given her confidence. "It was wonderful to be given the chance to learn new things" she enthused.
