Pupils bring Christmas cheer to Highland Council.

Members of The Highland Council had a welcome visit from pupils at Merkinch Primary School, Inverness today as they sang Christmas songs and Carols before the meeting of the Council.

Fourteen primary 6 and 7 pupils sang a variety of songs including some old favourites such as: ‘Silent Night’, ‘Frosty the Snowman’, ‘I saw mummy kissing Santa Claus’, ‘Let it Snow’, ‘We wish you a merry Christmas’, and ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’.

Councillor Jimmy Gray, Convener of The Highland Council thanked the Merkinch pupils and teachers for their singing said: “It’s lovely to hear our young people getting into the spirit of Christmas, and for bringing some seasonal joy and harmony to the members of the Council. I would encourage folks to join them when they sing in the Victorian Market next week.”

Depute Head Teacher Jenny Sculthorpe said: “We are delighted to sing here today. The choir have been practising hard and singing at local nursing homes and sheltered homes. On Monday 17 December they will perform in the Victorian Market and on Wednesday 19 December at the Corbett Centre, both in Inverness.”

She added: “I would like to thank our Teacher Katy Laidlaw who has worked very hard as musical director for the choir and to all the pupils for their beautiful singing.”
