Road condition and gritting treatment reports by The Highland Council’s, Transport, Environmental and Community Services for the morning of Friday 14 December 2012 are as follows:

Ross and Cromarty
Widespread snow cover. One inch in east of area. Up to six inches north of Ullapool. Reports of black ice in the Gairloch area. Continuing to treat all surfaces by priority. Posted: 14/12/2012 10:27

Caithness and North Sutherland
Heavy rain in Caithness falling on sub-zero road surfaces leading to icy/slushy patches. Up to 75mm of snow in North Sutherland mainly on inland routes and high ground with icy patches. Treating all routes as required in priority order.

South Sutherland and Easter Ross
All routes affected by slush and snow this morning up to 8cm in west and central areas and 2cm to the east of the area. All routes being treated in priority order.

Lochaber
All priority 1 and 2 routes patrolled, some spot treatment on some of the routes.

2cm of snow over whole area. Treating routes by priority.

Badenoch and Strathspey
All roads affected by snow/slush up to 5cm in the Carrbridge area. 2-3cm on most routes treating all routes by priority.

Skye and Lochalsh
Icy patches from sleet and snow showers yesterday evening, but roads drying out from the freshening breeze so not too many problems on the main routes. Treating all priority 1, 2 and 3 routes then moving onto difficult priority 4s. Road surface temperatures forecast to creep above zero late morning with mild air moving in.
