Landslide on the A890 Stromeferry bypass closes road in both directions
A rockfall on the A890 Stromeferry Bypass, which links Lochcarron with Lochalsh, closed the road in both directions at 10 am. About 15 tonnes of rock fell down the hillside on to the verge of the road at a point one mile west of the Avalanche Shelter.
The Highland Council are aware of the situation and are currently assessing the condition of the rockface where there is another 50 tonnes of rock, including a dangerous overhanging crag to be removed. The road is likely to remain closed for three to four days. Gates have been erected to close the road and diversion signs are now in place.
