Tribute to Inverness recycling centre operative

Tribute has been paid to a recycling centre operative at The Highland Council's Inverness recycling centre who died on Thursday evening after taking ill at work.

Donald "Donnie" MacDonald (45), Birnie Terrace, Inverness, took ill at 4.30 pm on Thursday and was taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.  He died two hours later.

The recycling centre was immediately closed when the ambulance arrived and was closed early for the day when the recycling centre staff were advised that Mr MacDonald had passed away.

The centre reopened at 9.30am on Friday.

Mr MacDonald leaves a wife Lynn and his step son Paul.

He joined the Council in 2001 as a loader on refuse collection and moved to the recycling centre on Henderson Road four years ago.

Alan McKinnie, Waste Operations Manager, The Highland Council’s TEC Services, Inverness,  said: "Donnie was a very popular member of staff who was well known to the regular visitors to the recycling centre. He will be hugely missed by his colleagues and our thoughts are with his wife, Lynn, and his family at this sad time."
