New community councils formed at Lairg and Raasay
New community councils have been formed at Lairg and at Raasay, Skye, following the count of postal votes cast in elections held on Thursday 2 February.
The turn out at Raasay was 91%, with 117 valid votes counted.
There were 10 candidates standing for eight places on the Community Council. Those elected were:-
Shaun Carney, 79; Ronnie Nicolson, 76; Sylvia Robertson, 71; Katherine Gillies, 67; Tekela Koek, 62; Rebecca MacKay, 55; Jill Westgarth, 49; Margaret MacVicar, 48.
At Lairg, there was a 59.12 % turn out, with 441 valid votes counted.
Nine candidates were standing for eight places on the Community Council. Those elected were: -
Hector MacLennan, 343; Jeff Norrie, 333; Liz Quinn, 332; Simon Allison, 316; Iain MacKay, 309; Michelle Grover-Smith, 222; Mark Grover-Smith, 208; Emma Armstrong, 178.
A total of 153 out of 156 Highland Community Councils are now operating.
The only three which will remain in abeyance are Caol, Inverness Central and Laggan, where there is an active Community Association in operation.
