Fun family events running next week
Den building in the woods at Farr, a hunt to find The Gruffalo on Ness Islands and quest to track down dragons in Nairn all feature next week in three family friendly events organised by The Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers.
The first event held on Tuesday (10th July) invites you to come along to learn the principles of staying warm and dry outdoors, before having a go at building a den shelter in the woods at Farr.
Senior Countryside Ranger for Inverness Katy Martin said: “This is a fun, hands on approach to learning the basics of finding shelter in the outdoors. Places are limited and we ask that people book a place to ensure they are not disappointed. The woodland location will be given out on booking.”
This event, running from 2pm – 3.30pm, is most suitable for families with children aged 6 years old and above. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult and places must be booked in advance. The cost for adults is £3 and £2 for children. For more information and to book, please call 01463 710786.
On Friday (13 July) all under 8’s with a sense of adventure are welcome to join the rangers at Ness Islands in Inverness to follow a woodland trail that will lead them to meet The Gruffalo. On the way they will encounter an array of woodland animals and find out about their where they live and what they eat.
The route is suitable for prams and buggies and costs £3 for children, free for accompanying adults. Starting at 2pm, the meeting up point is the entry to Ness Islands on Bught Road .
Do dragons really exist? There’s only one way to find out and that is by being brave and coming along on a dragon walk in the woods at Nairn on Sunday (15 July) from 2-4pm.
John Orr, Inverness East and Nairn Ranger said: “We’ll be tracking dragons through the woods, looking for their tracks and signs. Dragon trackers should call me on 01463 710786 or 0777 137 0959 to book a place and find out the meeting point. ”
This event is most suitable for families with children aged 4-10years old. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult and the cost will be £3 for adults and £2 for children.
This events are part of The Highland Council’s annual programme of Countryside Ranger events which can be found on the Council’s website .
The aim of the Countryside Rangers is to promote public enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside and to conserve wildlife.
