More ranger events to keep kids occupied
The Highland Council Countryside Rangers are running four family friendly events next week in Drumnadrochit, Beauly, Abriachan and Inverness to help keep kids occupied during the school holidays.
On Tuesday (17 July), based on CBBC’s “Live’N’Deadly” wildlife and adventure show, all junior sleuths are invited to come along to investigate a crime at The Cover woodland in Drumnadrochit. Running from 2pm-4pm, all wildlife detectives are challenged to test their powers of observation. The meeting up point is Kilmore car park. (NH 515295)
A special Nature Olympics takes place as the Shinty Pitch in Beauly on Wednesday (18 July) from 2pm to 3.30pm. Come along to discover the fastest, furthest and the fittest and find out who gets gold in the animal kingdom? In the Olympic year, why not come along to test yourself and try and out compete some of nature’s best athletes.
Both of these events cost £3 for children and a free for accompanying adults. There is no need to book in advance but for further information please ring Countryside Ranger Corinne McCallum on 01463 710786.
On Thursday the focus turns to Dragons. Do these mythical creatures really exist in Abriachan Woods? There’s only one way to find out. Be brave and join the Countryside Rangers on a dragon walk in the woods.
Katy Martin, The Highland Council’s Countryside Ranger in Inverness said: “We’ll be tracking dragons through the woods, looking for their tracks and signs. Dragon seekers should call me to book a place and find out the meeting point. ”
To book call Katy on 01463 710786. There are two sessions running from 1pm – 2pm or 3pm – 4pm. Suitable for families with children aged 4-10 years old, the cost for adults is £3 and £2 for children. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult
“Where the Wild Things Are” is the final event of the week and runs on Friday (20 July) from 2pm – 3.30pm at Ness Islands in Inverness. Who is the wildest of the Wild Things? An Adventure for young children based on the beautiful book by Maurice Sendack.
Local Ranger Corinne McCallum said: ”This is a fantastic event for firing the imagination of young children as they follow the trail of the Wild Things and try out activities on the way.”
There is no need to pre-book, just meet up at the Bught Park entrance to the Ness Islands. The cost will be £3
