Council take a stand at Black Isle Show

Visitors to the Black Isle Show at Muir of Ord on Thursday (2 August) are invited to call into the stand of The Highland Council to access a wide range of advice and information on key services. The  Council can be found at stand F94/G107 opposite the bar and restaurant tent.

Health and wellbeing are a key feature of the stand this year.  Healthy eating and the use of locally sourced meat, fish and vegetables will be promoted by staff from the catering and school meals service who serve 16,000 meals a day to Highland primary and secondary schools.  Further advice on health and lifestyle will be available from an NHS Health Screening Nurse with free blood pressure and a body analysis checks, while leisure staff from Highlife Highland will be providing information on the Highlife membership scheme as well as running a cycling challenge with a range of prizes on offer. 

For people looking to make the most of the great outdoors, The Council’s Countryside Rangers will be able to provide information on guided walks and will have some fun activities for children.  To make sure you get there safely, the Road Safety team are promoting the Pass Plus scheme for new drivers and will be giving drivers young and old a chance to check their reaction times and learn more about safe stopping distances.

This year has seen the roll-out across Highland of improved domestic recycling arrangements and the Waste Awareness team will be on hand to give further advice on recycling, particularly in relation to plastics and garden waste.

For anyone looking to know more about their consumer rights, the Trading Standards team will be on hand to chat.  This year they will be focusing on how your rights are affected when you travel overseas and staff will also be on hand from the UK European Consumer Centre to provide advice and support to consumers who are shopping cross-border within the European internal market.
