Fort William welcomes the Can-Am Pipes and Drums

The sound of the pipes is never far away wherever you are in Fort William, but this weekend that sound will be amplified with the arrival of the Can-Am Pipes and Drums.

The Pipe Band was formed to tour Scotland in 2012 for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Year and its members are from Canada (Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Colombia and the Yukon) and the United States (Florida, Texas, New York, Oregon and Washington).

The band currently consists of 42 pipes, 15 drums, 4 colour party and Drum Major.

The Pipes and Drums will perform  on Sunday 29 July at 12 noon in Glencoe Village and at around 3pm in Ballachulish.

They will then perform in Fort William High Street at 7pm and there will be joined by Lochaber Pipe Band.

Provost Councillor Allan Henderson said: “We are delighted that the Can-Am Pipes and Drums have chosen to visit Lochaber and that they are playing in Glencoe, Ballachulish and Fort William after which they will travel to Skye and Inverness.

“The Highlands always have a strong link with Canada and America and we have no doubt this visit through music will strengthen that warm and lasting relationship.”
