Olympic Torch Relay in Badenoch and Stathspey

A meeting recently took place in Aviemore between The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and community event organisers to look at traffic management, pedestrian safety and reduce congestion on Monday 11 June 2012 - the day the torch passes through Badenoch and Strathspey.

For people heading into Aviemore, Carrbridge and Grantown on Monday 11 June the advice given is:

Parking will be available in the car parks situated in Aviemore, Carrbridge and Grantown. However signs will direct people to parking at the Aviemore Highland Resort or for Carrbridge at Landmark. The public car park in Carrbridge next to the primary school will be closed due to celebrations happening within the immediate vicinity, and so we ask that motorists avoid leaving vehicles there prior. If motorists can aim to get to available car parks at least 30 minutes prior to allow for any congestion and delays.

The published times of the torch convoy are approximates depending on traffic and other factors, so it’s advised people get along early to ensure a prime spot. Entertainment is also anticipated to take place around an hour before the published times.

The torch leaves Inverness Castle at 10.30 and heads down the A9 to Badenoch and Strathspey. It enters Aviemore – along Grampian Road (from Dougall Drive at 11.34 to the Youth Hostel at 11.52).

Onto Carrbridge – from Crannich Park at 12.14 along the Main Street past Carr Road to the car park at 12.19 (a 15 minute crew stop at the school). Then from the Car Park at 12.34 to Dalmore Road at 12.38.

Onto Grantown-On-Spey – from Woodlands Terrace at 12.54, via High Street on to Castle Road at 13.00, then Market Road 13.04, South Street 13.06, and onto Spey Avenue (to speed limit sign) at 13.11. Before going onto Tomintoul.
