Moments to shine for Caithness torch duo
Two young men from Caithness have a number of “moments to shine” over the next few days.
Andrew Sinclair (right) and Louis Mackinnon, both from Wick, attended the Olympic Media Briefing at Inverness today (Thursday) and have been invited to take part in the BBC’s Question Time, which is being held at Inverness tonight (Thursday).
On Saturday, they will be carrying the Olympic Torch on separate stages as it makes its way through the streets of Inverness. Andrew is first to run on a stretch on Glenurquart Road, near the headquarters of The Highland Council, while Louis is running the penultimate stretch across the River Ness and along Ness Walk.
And on Sunday, they will be presenting the torches at an event taking place at John O’Groats.
Andrew is a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament and Louis is the chairman of the Highland Youth Voice, the youth parliament for the Highlands.
The event at John O’Groats will begin at 4.30 pm on Sunday when the Caithness Junior Pipe Band will lead a gathering from the village park where the Caithness and Sutherland Vintage Car Rally in taking place down to the harbour. There will be entertainment at the harbour before the torches are presented at 5.30 pm. The Highland Council’s Caithness Civic Leader Councillor Gail Ross will be present to introduce the torchbearers.
