Update - Loss of telephone services

Issued by Northern Constabulary

Following the failure of a number of landline services in the Skye and Western Isles areas Police would like to advise members of the public requiring Police assistance that they can make contact with any Highland Council workmen in the area.

Highland Council roads workers still have access to comms and will be in a position to contact Police for anyone requiring assistance in the absence of phone lines.
Police are working with partners to address the issue and everything possible is being done to restore services as quickly as possible. There is no definite timescale at this time and the public are advised to remain patient and tune into local radio and TV broadcasts for updates.

The failure of ALL the following landline telephone services has been notified by British Telecom to Northern Constabulary: Ardvasar, Balallan, Glendale, Glenshiel, Killilan, Uig, Barra.

Public contact points have been set up at the Armadale Port offices (for Ardvasar), Barra Police station and the Village Hall at Glenshiel. Additional police patrols have been directed to the affected areas and further information with regards the location of the remainder of static response points will be issued shortly.
