Inverness Football Festival won by young German visitors
The revived Inverness Football Festival was won by FC Augsburg at the weekend.
The under 17 Bavarian side defeated Clachnacuddin 3-1 on Friday night, drew 1-1 with Ross County on Saturday and clinched the round-robin event on Sunday with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
They received their trophy from the Convener of The Highland Council Councillor Jimmy Gray at a civic reception held at Inverness Town Hall on Sunday.
In the other games, Ross County defeated Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1-0; Clach defeated Ross County 4-3 but lost 3-0 to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Councillor Gray said: “The event was a great success and I hope it can be repeated. All the players and their coaching staff deserve great credit for the high standard of play and for the good sportsmanship displayed. FC Augsburg are now playing in the top flight in Germany and they obviously have some very talented players coming through.”
The visit was jointly organised by the Inverness Town Twinning Committee, the Council and the three Highland football clubs that took part.
