Highland schools awarded for enterprising projects
Members of The Highland Council’s newly formed Adult and Children's Services Committee have congratulated three Highlands schools for their achievements in winning an Enterprise project sponsored by Baillie Gifford and Company.
The competition was sponsored by Baillie Gifford in order to celebrate their association with the Council for twenty years.
Nine schools were successful in showing that they provide quality enterprise projects in their school curriculum.
The top three prizes went to: Kinlochewe Primary; Farr Primary (Inverness); and Deshar Primary (Boat of Garten) who received £250 per school. In second places were Lochardil, Newmore and Banavie Primaries receiving £150 each and third places went to Portree; Knockbreck (Tain); and Keiss Primaries each awarded £100.
A panel of judges looked for key elements of Enterprise including: creativity; flexibility and team working; positive attitudes to change; use of initiative; and partnerships and engagement of the community all of which worked within the Curriculum for Excellence.
Congratulating pupils and teachers from Kinlochewe, Farr and Deshar Primaries, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Adult and Children's Services Committee Councillor Alasdair Christie said: “I am delighted to see that enterprise projects are now not just measured as successful through their profits but also through the important skills that pupils learn for life and future work which are also deemed as vitally important.
