Highland Leader welcomes Scottish Government’s A9 commitment
Councillor Drew Hendry, Leader of The Highland Council, has welcomed news that the Scottish Government intends to bring forward by two years to 2015 the start of work to upgrade to dual carriageway the A 9 Inverness – Perth road.
The work features seven sections of single carriageway requiring upgrade, the first being the dualling of the carriagway between Kincraig – Dalraddy.
Councillor Hendry said: “This is another very positive announcement affecting the Highlands that has been made by the Scottish Government. The upgrading of the A 9 is critical to the wellbeing both to our people and to the economy of the Highlands. We all want to see a reduction in the unacceptably high number of accidents on this busy gateway to the Highlands.”
In its Programme for the Council over the next five years, the Council Leadership states the Council will work with the Scottish Government, Transport Scotland and partners to support the upgrade of the A9 within Highland. The Programme is being presented to the full Council on Thursday for confirmation.
