Council Leader welcomes Green Investment Bank's location in Edinburgh

The Highland Council Leader Councillor Michael Foxley has welcomed today’s announcement by the UK Government that the new Green Investment Bank is to have its headquarters based in Edinburgh.

The Council fully supported the Edinburgh bid and Councillor Foxley said: “This is great news for Edinburgh and Scotland as a whole. We were delighted to support the bid based on Edinburgh's financial strength and rapidly developing green credentials. I am sure the bank will emerge as a world leader in its field, supporting investment in a greener economy.

“The Highlands has huge renewable energy potential which should bring significant benefit for local communities. The Council looks forward to working with the bank in building sustainable economic development in the Highlands.”

The announcement by the Government is available on the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills website.
