Provost welcomes city status for Perth

Provost Jimmy Gray, Chairman of The Highland Council’s Inverness City Committee, said The Highland Council had supported Perth’s bid for city status, through its active involvement in the Six Cities Initiative.

He said:  “Many congratulations to Perth on their success with their bid.  I hope Perth derives the same benefits that  Inverness has enjoyed over the past decade.  Gaining city status at the millennium had been a huge boost to the economy and wellbeing of Inverness.

“There is absolutely no doubt that our community has grown in confidence and stature since city status was conferred on Inverness in 2000.  Inverness is the hub of the Highlands and its growth and success is going for the whole region and we are also contributing to a more prosperous Scotland.”
