Young musicians heading towards sell-out concerts
Members of the eight Highland Regional Music Groups have almost reached the end of their rehearsals for a full day of concerts in Eden Court Theatre in Inverness on Sunday 25th March.
Such is the reputation of these talented musicians from all over Highland that tickets are selling well, with the third concert of the day already sold out.
Whilst all the concerts promise to cater for every musical taste, the first event of the day featuring Highland Regional Youth Orchestra and their guest pianist Tristan Lee in a performance of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto no.2 is already shaping up to be one of the musical highlights of this year.
Tristan appears with permission of Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester and has already rehearsed with the orchestra. Norman Bolton, Highland Council’s Music Development Officer said: “The recent rehearsal with Tristan saw a mutual musical respect emerge between soloist and members of the orchestra. The skills involved in accompanying a stunning young soloist are something that most of our members would not experience elsewhere and it is always a relief when the trust placed in the musicians by myself and the Instrumental Instructors pays off.”
The second concert, which starts at 5pm, will feature performances by the Highland Youth Pipe Band, the Highland Schools Wind Band, and the regional Gaelic choir, Còisir G.
The days event will finish with sell-out performances from Highland Youth Choir; Highland Youth Big Band and ‘snas, the regional ceilidh band starting at 7.15pm in the One Touch Theatre.
A percussion group made up of members from a number of the groups will be entertaining in the Foyer area and the Friends of Highland Young Musicians will be selling raffle tickets to raise funds for the music groups.
The Regional Music Groups are run by The Highland Council as an extension to the work of the Instrumental Tuition Service. Membership for all the groups is by audition or invitation after an annual Audition Day and members are drawn from all areas of Highland.
