Amended timetable for partial reopening of Stromeferry bypass
The timetable for the partial reopening of the A 890 Lochcarron – Kyle road at Stromeferry has been slightly amended following the first day’s operation.
There is a change to the Monday – Friday timetable. The road will now open between 11.35am – 11.55 am, instead of between 10.20 and 10.55 am.
On Saturday, an additional opening has been agreed between 18.10 – 18.50.
The opening is restricted to traffic under 7.5 tonnes gross weight.
As a result of round the clock working, traffic is diverted on to the railway line over HoldFast paving at the following times.
Monday – Friday: 0710 - 0745 (Lochcarron to Kyle first); 0850 - 0915; 11.35 – 11.55; 1340 - 1420; 1610 - 1700; 1810 - 1900;
Saturday: 0710 - 1030; 13.40 - 14.20; 16.10 - 17.00; 18.10 – 18.50
Sunday: 0710 - 1245; 1400 - 1505; 1615 - 1850.
Outwith these times the road will be closed to all traffic. Times may vary slightly due to train time variations.
As a back up, a passenger ferry and a car ferry will continue to run until and including Friday 23 March.
Road opening times will increase on weekday mornings once the early train between Strathcarron and Kyle ends on Friday 23 March.
The A 890 road has been closed since 22 December last year as the result of a landslide. The Highland Council has appointed TRAC Engineering Ltd to make safe the rockface at a point 100 yards west of the Avalanche Shelter.
They have 40 staff working round the clock to achieve an early unrestricted opening of the road.
