Lord Lieutenant to officially open newly completed Ross-shire walking and cycling route

Local communities are celebrating the completion of a walking and cycling route which now stretches from Evanton along to Alness and Invergordon, complementing the Sustrans’ National Cycle Network. 

The path provides a safe and accessible link for all and can be used simply for pleasure or to access local facilities.

Funding for the various different sections has come from a range of sources including The Highland Council, Transport Scotland, Sustrans, Scottish Water and the generosity of some of the landowners. The most recently completed section between Alness Academy and Belleport was delivered as part of a European Regional Development Fund project.

The path is already well used by cyclists, runners, walkers, shoppers, commuters and for pleasure and social visits and it is hoped that cruise liner passengers will find it an attraction.

Local communities were keen to support the Alness Community Association’s suggestion that the path be named ‘the Diamond Jubilee Path 2012’ and The Lord Lieutenant has agreed to attend on Wednesday 9th of May at 2pm opposite the Invergordon Boating Club car park to name and open this celebration path. All are welcome to attend.
