Primary pupil’s film under the spotlight in UK finals
A primary school in Inverness will be flying the flag for Scotland next month after successfully winning through to the finals of a UK- wide technology competition.
The challenge for schools taking part in the Make IT Healthy 2012 competition was to demonstrate how they use IT to contribute to a healthier life for students, the school community and even for those in the wider community.
A group of P6 children from Raigmore Primary School chose to make a film all about their ‘Big 100’ event held at the school on March 12th, for Sport Your Trainers day which was part of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games team campaign to get everyone wearing their trainers.
The film has been selected as the winning entry for the whole of Scotland and the young film makers are now invited to travel to London on June 19th to take part in the UK finals which take place in the Houses of Parliament. They will be awarded £1,200 for their school and be joined by 11 other finalists from England, Wales and Northern Ireland to compete for 3 overall UK winner’s awards.
Head Teacher Fiona Shearer said: “I am just over the moon for the children that their hard work and enthusiasm for this project has paid off and I am extremely proud of their efforts & this achievement. We had great fun organising our Big 100 event and it was a fantastic event, we really appreciated all the support we had from everyone in the community, from schools all over Highland, from Edinburgh and even as far as Afghanistan. We are really looking forward to going to London for the final awards ceremony next month.”
Glasgow 2014 Chief Executive David Grevemberg said: “I’d firstly like to congratulate the primary 6 pupils from Raigmore Primary School on their achievement and wish them all the best in the final of the competition. I’d also like to thank the pupils for their efforts in supporting Glasgow 2014’s Sport Your Trainers campaign which saw over one million Scots wearing their trainers on Commonwealth Day.”
