The world beneath our feet, a celebration of soils.
Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers are inviting people to find out about soils and their local wildlife at two events in Inverness as part of Highland Biodiversity Week on Friday 25 May and Saturday 26 May from 2 to 4pm.
On Friday 25 May, the Rangers will lead a walk around the gardens at Culloden House Hotel, to look at how the gardens have been managed through the years to benefit people and wildlife. It will include a visit to the walled garden to see how it is being brought back to life.
On Saturday 26 May, they will be at Abriachan looking at the ‘Living World beneath our feet’. “We walk in it, dig it up and need it to grow our food, but have you ever looked at it closely? This will be a fun, family friendly look at the world beneath our feet.” Said Katy Martin, Highland Council’s Countryside Ranger in Inverness.
She added: “We take soils for granted, but they are essential for us to survive. These events show just how reliant we are on them now and in the past.”
Both events start at 2pm, will last for 2 hours and cost £3 for adults and £2 for concessions. Places are limited so please contact the Inverness ranger office on 01463 710786 to book a place.
The aim of the Highland Council Countryside Rangers is to promote public enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside and to conserve wildlife.
