Huntly Street flood works get under way.
Motorists are being advised that the first phase of essential works associated with the River Ness Flood Scheme to divert water mains on Huntly Street, Inverness, will now start on Monday 26 November, resulting in the closure of the street between Young Street and Greig Street until 3 December.
Work was due to start on Thursday 22 November but was delayed due to the need to focus all resources to the Ness Bridge at Castle Road, where additional works were identified during the diversion of essential services there.
The intended programme at Huntly Street for the rest of 2012 is now as follows:
The initial road closure is for the installation of a new water main along Huntly Street. When these works have been completed and the new water main has been commissioned, in early 2013 the contractor will proceed to laying new gas services along Huntly Street. The installation of these new services is necessary as part of the River Ness Flood Alleviation Scheme. The Contractor will be working extended hours,7 am to 10 pm Monday to Saturday, with no work on Sundays.
When sectional road closures are in place, access to and egress from Huntly Street will be provided along the adjacent side streets. A signed diversion will be in place to facilitate works in each section.
Access for emergency vehicles, Blue Badge holders, businesses and residences will be maintained.
Pedestrian access will also be maintained throughout Huntly Street during the works.
