CNPA appoints new chief executive.

The Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) has appointed a new Chief Executive. Grant Moir is currently the Director of Conservation and Visitor Experience – responsible for a team of 80 people within the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority – and will take up the role in March 2013.

Jane Hope, who has been in the post since the Park's inception in 2003, announced in June this year her intention to retire early in 2013.

Grant brings a wealth of National Park experience and knowledge to help him lead the work of the CNPA and coordinate the successful delivery of the Cairngorms National Park Partnership Plan. Originally from Perthshire, he studied at Aberdeen University and has worked with LLTTNPA for the last seven years, prior to which he was in the Rural Affairs Department of the Scottish Executive. 

“The opportunity to lead the Cairngorms National Park Authority and to work in such a fantastic area is a great privilege and I am looking forward to getting started,” said Grant.

“The Cairngorms National Park has so much to offer and I am keen to begin working with residents, businesses, land managers, non-governmental organisations, and all of our public sector partners in the management of this very special place.”

Convenor of CNPA board, Duncan Bryden said: “I am very pleased that Grant is to become our new Chief Executive.  He has great energy and enthusiasm for the Cairngorms National Park and the skills to lead our excellent and committed staff.  His experience will stand us in good stead as we and our partners jointly ensure the Cairngorms are a first class, 'must visit' National Park and a fine place for people and wildlife.  In our first 10 years Jane Hope has built sound foundations and an international reputation for the CNPA. Grant has an excellent platform to work from. “

The Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Paul Wheelhouse, commented: “I very much welcome the appointment of Grant Moir as Chief Executive of CNPA and look forward to working with him as the Park Authority and its many partners take forward the Cairngorms Park Partnership Plan for the benefit of all those who visit, live and work there, while protecting what is a highly valued environment for future generations.”
