Request for funding to create play area within Inshes Park

At Monday’s Inverness Areas City Committee, members will be asked to contribute £150,000 from the Inverness Common Good Fund towards a £395,000 project to provide recreational equipment for the newly opened first phase of Inshes Park.

Inshes Community Association have applied for the funds in order that they can purchase and install recreational and play equipment in an area of the new park beside Inshes Primary School.

Inshes Park is the first new public park to be built in Inverness for a generation and covers a significant area of 29 hectares (72 acres) in South Inverness.  This area of land is being developed in three phases. Funding for the project comes from contributions made by the various developers of housing in the neighbourhood and also the Landfilll Communities Fund.

The £620,000 first phase of work at Inshes Park was officially opened this year on 24th August by Provost Councillor Alex Graham, with assistance from pupils at the nearby Inshes Primary School.

City Leader, Councillor Ian Brown said: “Since the first phase of the park opened it has been great to see people of all ages making use of the space and enjoying spending time in it.  From the beginning of the project the main focus has been creating a park that reflects the ideas and aspirations of the local community.  When drawing up the design inspiration was taken from those who live beside it, including speaking to the school children to see what they would like to see.

“I will be recommending that the Council grants this contribution from the Common Good Fund as I am sure the new recreational equipment will prove to be very popular and siting it conveniently close to the school is ideal and makes it very accessible for families to get to.  It will transform this area of the new park into a focal point for people of all ages  to really enjoy spending time in.”
