Council employee retires after 33 years of service to one school

A Highland Council employee retires this week after 33 years of service at Maryburgh Primary School.

Mrs Christine MacLennan started work with Highland Regional Council and then transferred to The Highland Council in 1996. She has been employed in various roles including road crossing patroller from 1979 to 1985; school cook from 1996 to 2006 and from 1985 to the present day she has been school cleaner.

Current pupils, teachers and colleagues from Catering and Cleaning Services gathered this week to wish Christine a happy retirement.

Ben Wyvis Primary Head Teacher, Rita McDaid said, “Everyone will miss Christine. She is always cheerful and happy in her workplace. We as a school, would like to thank her, for her many years of dedication and hard work. We wish her a long, happy and healthy retirement, spending lots of time in her beautiful garden.”

Gary Moffat, Highland Council’s Cleaning Officer also commended Christine’s service to the Council. He said: “Christine has been an excellent employee and nothing was ever too much trouble for her. She has always been a very efficient and reliable employee for the council and we wish her all the best for her retirement.”
