Long Service Award Scheme extended
The Highland Council has agreed to extend its Long Service Award scheme to include an extra category for staff with 50 years of service and over.
Currently the scheme operates on a sliding scale for staff who retire with between 20 and 40 years of continual service. Staff who retire with 40 years’ service or more receive a gift of their choice to the value of £400. After today’s decision, anyone with 50 years or more service will receive a gift up to the value of £500.
Chairman of the Finance, Housing and Resources Committee, Councillor David Fallows said: “We want to build on loyalty and demonstrate that the council can offer an exciting career with many opportunities. Occasionally we have employees who achieve in excess of 50 years’ service. This really is a considerable achievement and my fellow councillors unanimously agreed it was very appropriate to recognize anyone who has provided unusually long service.”
