Inverness school pupils draw up their plan for the future of the city

Pupils from secondary schools in Inverness have been helping to draw up a masterplan for the future of the Torvean, Charleston and Ness-side areas of the City alongside the proposed West Link Road.

Their work formed part of a four day event known as a Charrette organised by the Highland Council which aims to create a plan for the design and layout of new development in the area including housing, employment land and sporting facilities.

The event started on Monday evening and has already been attended by a wide range of people including local residents, sports clubs, businesses and landowners.  Pupils taking part in the event had the chance to share their ideas and a team of architects, designers and Council officers were on hand to help them prepare their masterplans.

Highland’s new Youth Convener John Erskine who opened the school event on Wednesday said “By taking part in this important event these pupils are helping to shape the future of their City.  Younger people will be living and working in these areas and using the sport facilities so it’s really important that they’ve had their say”.

The overall masterplan for development will be presented at a closing presentation at 7pm on Thursday 6th September at Culduthel Christian Centre.
