Blas Festival at Plockton

Sgoil Chiùil Na Gàidhealtachd is very pleased to present, on behalf of Blas Festival, Kristan Harvey and The Sanna on Saturday 15 September at 7:30pm.

Fiddle player Kristan Harvey was 2011’s BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year. The Sanna features guitarist Seán Gray of the Paul McKenna Band, multi-instrumentalist Megan Henderson and All Ireland Bodhran Champion Adam Brown. The quartette creates an exciting and fresh sound: a blend of Irish, Bluegrass and traditional Scottish styles, with quirky arrangements from Danish fiddle duets, to ‘Honky-tonk’ hornpipes, and Gaelic song.

On Monday 17 Sptember at 7:30pm, Sgoil Chiùil Na Gàidhealtachd willl host the Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra  - a fantastic ensemble of the very best young jazz musicians from Scotland on their 10th anniversary tour.

Established in June 2002, the Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra showcases endless talent, improvisational skills, exuberance and verve, the orchestra members demonstrate these traits in every performance and play with a collective maturity well beyond their years.

With a repertoire that makes no concessions to their youth and featuring soloists of startling ambition and creativity, these young musicians bring alive the music and pay tribute to the true giants of jazz making their compositions sing with enthusiasm, style, personality and expression.

Tommy and orchestra members will also be conducting workshops in both Sgoil Chiùil and Plockton High School as part of their visit.
