The Highland Council joins in Twitter 24
Following the success of last year’s Twitter 24 project, The Highland Council is taking part in another 24 hour event next week, using the social media channel to reach local residents.
The event takes place from noon on Tuesday 18 September until noon on 19 September. It aims to raise awareness of the breadth and complexity of services offered by councils by giving residents an insight into a day in the life of their council.
The Council is also hosting a Question and Answer session/online discussion from 6pm to 7pm on Tuesday 18 September on Twitter to engage directly with their service users. This will be fronted by Leader Drew Hendry, who said: "We are always looking for ways to engage with our residents, to let them know about our services and also find out what they think about local issues. I hope lots of our customers will join in by sending tweets to @HighlandCouncil with the hashtag #mycouncil when they speak to council staff or use one of our services during the 24 hour period.”
This is the second year that Twitter 24 has taken place and participating local authorities hope to build on the success of last year’s campaign, which saw councils tweet thousands of times, achieve hundreds of retweets and reply to hundreds of direct messages during the event. The 2011 event was commended in the LG Comms-LGA Reputation Awards in the Digital and Social Media category.
