Achfary primary school mothballed
From Monday 17 September 2012 Achfary Primary School has been 'mothballed' on the basis of pupils moving to Scourie Primary School.
The reason for mothballing of the school is that the majority of pupils moving back to Scourie Primary reside in the Scourie area and parents have elected to return them to their local school.
Achfary Primary School is not formally closed but mothballed, meaning that if appropriate numbers of primary aged pupils moved into the Achfary area in the future the school would re-open.
To undertake formal closure of a school, local authorities are required under the terms of the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 to carry out a statutory public consultation.
