At today’s (Wednesday 19 September) Planning, Environment and Development Committee members voted to uphold the decision of the Council’s South Planning Application Committee to grant planning permission in principle to Moray Estates Development Company Ltd for a new town on land to the north east of Tornagrain.

Following a morning site visit and a debate, members voted 17 to 3 for the motion to uphold the decision made on 21 August to grant planning consent.  There were two abstentions.

The Convener of the Council, Councillor Jimmy Gray who put forward today’s motion to uphold the decision made last month by the South PAC said:  “This is the first time ever that a planning committee in Highland have had an opportunity to debate plans for a brand new settlement. It is a unique opportunity and one we need to grasp with both hands.”
