Council leader welcomes award of A9 dualling contracts.

Leader of The Highland Council, Councillor Drew Hendry has warmly welcomed the Transport Scotland announcement of award of contracts for early design work on the dualling of the A9 north of Perth.

He said: “Our Highland Council Programme states that we will work with the Scottish Government and Transport Scotland to support the upgrade of the whole of the A9 north of Perth. The announcement today is very welcome as it confirms that work has now begun on this vital lifeline project that will be a huge boost to the Highland economy as well as dramatically improving safety for our people and visitors.

“We are particularly pleased that issues such as laybys and rest areas, active travel facilities and improved infrastructure for walkers, cyclists, and equestrians are being considered very early on in the project. We will be available to work as closely as possible with the Scottish Government to ensure the best outcomes for this project within our area.”
