Council to target road repairs where need is greatest.
The Highland Council’s Chairman of the Transport, Environmental and Community Services (TEC) Committee Councillor Graham Phillips has welcomed progress being made on the management and maintenance of Highland Council roads.
The progress has been made in response to reports by Audit Scotland on Scottish (including Highland) roads maintained by local authorities in 2004 and more recently in June 2012.
Councillor Phillips, Chairman of the Council’s TEC Services Committee said: “Our work from the result of these audits has brought about great results. This is the first time ever that Highland Council has allocated money to repair roads, based on where the roads most need fixing. Because we now have a robust asset management system, this also means that year-on-year we can monitor the trend in road conditions and act accordingly.”
Members of the Council’s TEC Services Committee have been informed of the audit work carried out by Audit Scotland in 2012 which focused on how each council had responded to recommendations contained in Audit Scotland’s report “Maintaining Scotland’s roads: a follow up report” (2011).
