Inverness - Clean Air, it’s your Move!
The Council on behalf of Inverness has signed up to European Mobility Week, 16th-22nd September, this year entitled “Clean Air- it’s your move”. The initiative focuses upon the promotion and implementation of sustainable and active modes of transport, such as walking, cycling, or taking the bus. By using these alternative modes of transport instead of the car there are multiple benefits both to ourselves and to the community – We can save money, get healthier, and reduce air pollution. Leaving the car at home can also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and therefore reduce our contribution to climate change.
Throughout European Mobility Week, the Council will be promoting a range of active and sustainable ways to move around both the city and the Highlands. So whether you are going to work, socialising, shopping, or just visiting Inverness there will be many exciting ways in which you can get involved.
Councillor Hendry, Leader of the Highland Council, signed the European Mobility Week Charter on Monday 26th August. He said “There are many exciting ways to move around and explore Inverness on foot, by bicycle or by bus. The city is a fantastic environment, and travelling in this manner has multiple benefits. This initiative has the potential to improve air quality in Inverness and help to reduce the city’s carbon footprint, and the Council is proud to support it.”
“The initiative is in alignment with the Highland Council’s recent long term commitment of achieving a Carbon Neutral Inverness in a Low Carbon Highlands by 2025; Carbon Clever Highlands.”
