Highland Youth Convener Launches #chunkyjumpers Campaign

Issued by Highlife Highland

In support of The Highland Council’s Carbon Management Plan 2013-2020 and Carbon Clever Initiative, The Highland Youth Convener, Highland Youth Voice members and Children’s Champion Cllr Linda Munro launched a ‘Chunky Jumper’ campaign on Friday 6th December.

#chunkyjumpers will build on the success of The Highland Council’s Wacky Woolly Wednesday initiative which took place earlier this year. #chunkyjumpers aims to encourage young people to make one simple change to their behaviour or ‘chunky jumper commitments’ (such as wearing a thick jumper and turning the heating down, not charging your phone overnight, walking or cycling to school/college/work, recycling some old clothing and changing to energy efficient lightbulbs).

The Highland Youth Convener, Ainya Taylor has noted ‘We want every Highland Youth Voice (HYV) member and Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) to commit to some of these ‘chunky jumper commitments.’ HYV members will be encouraging young people in their local schools and areas to do the same.

The Highland Council’s Young Person’s Champion,  Councillor Linda Munro will support the launch.  She says: “This is a fun way to get across an important message and something I am sure young people from across the Highlands will enjoy taking part in.  Any savings great or small will make a difference.”

HYV members will report on their progress at their June 2014 conference.

The Highland Youth Convener, Ainya Taylor and The HYV Chair, Cameron Cosgrove, will be sharing regular carbon clever messages on twitter via the #chunkyjumpers hashtag and one the HYV and Youth Convener Facebook pages.

In February 2014, HYV also hope to encourage a ‘chunky jumper day’ for High Life Highland staff and The Highland Council staff where organisations turn the heating a bit lower and encourage warm clothing and ‘chunky jumper’ wearing!
