Lunchtime wildlife talks

The Highland Council is pleased to announce that it is running a series of free, short talks on Highland Biodiversity as part of the Year of Natural Scotland 2013. The talks will take place on a Monday in the Council Chamber at its HQ in Glenurquhart Road, Inverness.

Members of the public are welcome to attend.  Anyone coming should make their way to the main reception  by 12.40. The talks start at 12.45, and last for 30 minutes with some time for questions afterwards. The list of talks is as follows;

The first talk took place on the 10th of February, it was entitled “Biodiversity – The Variety of All Life on Earth” it was well attended and provoked several interesting questions. The most memorable of which was, “what makes a desert a desert?” The answer is that a true desert has less than 30cm of rain annually and more than 30cm of evaporation annually, meaning that it is losing water constantly. Rather than ranging worldwide, the next talk will focus on our biodiversity closer to home and will have plenty of Highland highlights.
